Season 5 of ABC’s “Once Upon A Time” closed with The Evil Queen reemerging in Storybrooke. But it looks like Regina has more to deal with when the series returns later this year. Actress Lana Parilla, who plays both characters, hinted at what is in store for Regina in Season 6.
To recap, Season 5 was very eventful for Regina. As mentioned, she was able to get her dark side out (paving the way for the return of an old villain), and she had to deal with the loss of Robin Hood (Sean Maguire). Parilla hinted that her character will not be able to move on from the tragedy soon and her mourning period will continue on to Season 6. “I think mourning will continue over time,” the 38-year-old told TV Line. “Regina is a very private person, she doesn’t really share a lot of what’s going on inside. Internally, she’s conflicted by so many things that she doesn’t even talk about.” However, even she does not know how Regina will deal with the loss now that the character has undergone changes in the span of five seasons. Moreover, she has managed to separate herself from the evil side of her psyche. For now, the actress is clueless how Regina as plain old Regina will approach her grief. “There’s been so much evolution, she’s come so far, she’s been in the shoes of the hero for the last couple of years, so I’m curious to see how she’s going to handle this big loss,” she added. Parilla also said that her character’s love for Robin will not end with his death. She said, “I feel like their love transcends death; I don’t think that that love is ever going to die.” Maguire spoke to The Hollywood Reporter shortly after the shocking twist aired on ABC. He recalled that while he knew what was about to go down, filming the scene with Parilla was incredibly heartbreaking. He said, “shooting the last scene with Lana was emotional and sad because we’ve had a great partnership over the past three years.” “Once Upon A Time” Season 6 is expected to air later this year on ABC.
